Chase Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of a new solo exhibition by the San Diego-based figurative painter Andres Valencia. The exhibition will present a series of paintings and works on paper created between 2020- 2022 and will mark the artist's first New York solo show. An opening reception with the artist will be held on Thursday, June 23rd, from 5-8pm at 413 West Broadway in New York.
Valencia’s first New York solo show follows a sold out booth at Art Miami in December 2021, where the artist, who is ten-years-old but has been painting since he was five, presented his work for sale to the public for the first time. The second show of his work that was offered for sale at the Palm Beach Art Fair in March 2022 also sold out within hours.
Valencia paints in a style that is reminiscent of the work of Pablo Picasso and George Condo but which is entirely his own. His first solo show, much anticipated by the media and art collectors, is titled "No Rules," reflecting the artist’s experimental approach to painting as much as his belief that creativity is unbounded and great art can be produced at any age by any artist. The show includes over 30 paintings made in his home studio in San Diego when he is not attending school like other kids his age or outside playing with his friends. Subjects of his paintings include abstract portraits of friends and family, but also purely imaginative imagery that comes to him. He likes to paint an image directly onto the canvas with a mix of oil stick, and oil and acrylic paint, often in bold colors resulting in colorful, imaginative and fragmented compositions.
In addition to a selection of paintings, the show will debut his second archival print release. His next print features the invented character of “Alberto the Clown” and is available exclusively through Chase Contemporary in New York on a first come first serve basis.
Collectors of his paintings include celebrities and business leaders: Sofia Vergara, Tommy Mottola, Thalia, Jessica Goldman (CEO Wynwood Walls), Jordan Belford, Logan Paul, Ryan Garcia, among others. The artist has a social conscience and in addition to believing creativity has no fixed boundaries has committed a new work to be sold on July 30th at the LuisaViaRoma x UNICEF Summer Gala, a night dedicated to children in emergency with a live report from Ukraine. The live auction conducted by Simon de Pury raises funds to support UNICEF's programs worldwide.
